Laptop/iPad/Hotspot Checkout Program

Laptops

  • Laptop Kiosk available within the Library
  • Laptops available for checkout outside of the library

iPADs

  • iPADs available to checkout inside or outside of the Library
  • iPAD Kiosk to use only within the Genealogy Library

Hotspots

  • Checkout 1 per card for 7 days; no renewals, but can place holds.
  • Service is only available in T-Mobile coverage areas.
  • View/place hold

Important information for the CheckOut Program. 

  • Check out criteria:
    • Adult with a CPPL card in good standing.
      • Temp Users and Out-of-Parish LSW users are excluded.
      • Parents may not use their child’s card for checkout purposes.
    • Possess a VALID Louisiana Driver’s License or State ID.
    • Account balance is $0.00.
  • Read and sign the Check Out agreement form.
  • CheckOut Program fees:
    • A $25.00 fee will be incurred if item is returned in book drop.
    • If the item is lost or not returned, the full cost of the item will be charged.
      • Costs: $1120 for a laptop, $620 for an iPad, and $220 for a hotspot.
    • There is a late fee of $10.00 per day.
  • Please keep the inventory list with the device so that staff may review that list when the device is returned.

 

Public Computers

All library branches have public PCs available for use either by library card holders, or via a visitor's pass. Please ask staff for more details on using the Internet if not a parish resident. 

Sessions are either 1 hour or 2 hours, with a daily limit of 2 sessions. Users must agree to the Electronic Use Policy to access the PCs.

Another option is WiFi access in the library.

 

Software on Public PCs

Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, and the following plug-ins which are updated quarterly: Flash, Adobe Reader, and JAVA

 

Available Services 

Saving Files

  • USB flash drive; most flash drives work with the libraries public PCs.
    • Central Library sells flash drives for $5.
  • No burning to CD.

 

Printing/Faxing Services

  • Printing from public PCs is available for $.20 per page.
  • Color copying and color printing are available at all library locations. The charge is $.50 per page.
  • Public fax service is not available. However, please see the Scanners section for an alternative.

 

Scanners

  • Document scanners are available at the Central Library, the Sulphur Regional Library, the Moss Bluff Library, and the SWLA Genealogical & Historical Library. For additional information, contact a specific branch.
  • These are coin operated, and the document feeder can scan 2 sided documents.

 

Charging Stations

  • You're visiting the library, and you've noticed that your smartphone, tablet or other electronic device has a low battery. Now what? Visit our charging stations. 

 

WiFi

All library branches have public WiFi access. Users may access the WiFi network between 8 am and 10 pm daily. For more details, please visit  WiFi in the Library.


I've replaced my library card or changed my email address. Which resources are affected by this change?
